The Latest Gadget Rumours of 2011
2011 will be another year of firsts. There will be the first 3DTV that doesn’t require glasses. The Nintendo 3DS the first 3D handheld console. The iPhone 5, although not strictly a first it will be groundbreaking nonetheless. As well as all of these there will be innovation after innovation throughout the whole of the year.
As a bit of a gadget
freak I follow the latest in TVs, Consoles, PC Peripherals and PC Hardware with the greatest awareness of what might be coming next. Firstly lets take the Nintendo 3DS. It is going to take the handheld gaming genre by storm. Not only is it the first handheld 3D console but it also doesn’t require any additional equipment to use to the max. It will be getting many games made for it over the next 12 months and a lot of these games will be made specifically to take advantage of the 3D screen.
Then comes the iPhone 5. The rumour mill is already spinning around happily with all the latest rumours about what Apple may or may not include in this next update. Lets hope it is fully tested and the infamous signal issues from the launch of the iPhone 4 are not present in this one. It is likely that they will improve on the memory, camera and the general OS. Many believe that they may include expandable memory slots but I believe this to be simply a rumour.
Others say the iPad 2 will be out this year with expandable memory and USB ports to enable expansion of the iPad into a tablet computer. Also it is rumoured that the iPad 2 will get a rear and front facing camera in order to take advantage of Apple’s fantastic Facetime video calls.
And finally we move on the PC hardware and peripherals. I believe that this year we will see many people taking up the option of touchscreen PCs. With the advent of Windows 7 in 2010 allowing for Touchscreen devices to work with the OS then the manufacturers have been busy making a multitude of hardware to go with it. With prices set to fall this year I believe the touchscreen monitors will become commonplace in the UK homes this year.
Then we have the Sandy Bridge processors which in itself is one of the biggest leaps forward for the CPU for a few years. After the boom of the early 2000s the CPU’s progress seemed to slow a little although all the cores were added to give better multitasking performance the actual clock speeds didn’t rise too much. The Sandy Bridge processors put an end to that with Turbo Boost technology built-in allowing you to overclock the CPU without any knowledge and the processors themselves are running so fast they will soon overtake the AMD and Intel chips of yesteryear.
These are my thoughts on the way technology is evolving in 2011. What do you think?
