PDF documents are popularly used for their ability to resist copy and also for their exclusive security features. They are generally password protected to enable and avoid any misuse that can occur from their copy. Also it ensures that only those recipients for whom the PDF was intended to be received receive them and all other foul play and intervention can be avoided.

But what would one do when he was the actual recipient of the PDF document sent which is password protected, but he is unable to open it. Examples of such cases would be forgotten password, no communication about password or corrupted password. In such cases it is viable to crack the password to read the document.

PDF passwords could be assigned to either restrict the printing, copying or the modifying of the original document or to restrict to even open and read the document.

One can use the PDF Unlocker to unlock the password. In the scenario where one is unable to copy, print or modify, the PDF document can be dragged to the PDF Unlocker. This removes the password and the said actions can be performed.

However in a situation where the PDF restricts you to even open it, one can right click the file and select ‘Remove PDF password’ and close the application for removal.

Another way to remove the password is to use PDF Crack. The techniques that work behind the password remover are wordlists or brute force or both. This supports all PDF versions. It can crack both User and also Owner passwords. It can be done while running a particular job also. Simple permutations are employed to remove the password. After the User password is cracked an optimized or an oriented search of Owner password is done to avoid redundancy.

To run the PDF crack, open a command prompt window. Enter pdfcrack.exe and run it. After this is done it will prompt you to give the PDF filename for which the remove is to be applied. Simply type the filename after pdfcrack –f and run it. (E.g. Pdfcrack –f abc.pdf). One can speedup up the process by giving the length of the password or special characters used.

For easy password removal use of the software helps decrypt the PDF files which were restricted earlier. It supports Adobe PDF 1.0 to 1.7 formats. The decryption is done by batch decrypting for multiple files at a time or single decrypting.
